Basic ESL Program History
Basic ESL was created by C. Sesma, M.A., the founder of Bilingual Dictionaries, Inc. With over 30 years of teaching experience, Mr. Sesma built a learning system for use in his own classrooms. That system was known as Basic English for Foreigners and was published in the early 1990s. Today, Bilingual Dictionaries, Inc. is the publisher of the Basic ESL® program and is developing new ways to deliver the content through online courses and workbooks.
Bilingual Dictionaries, Inc. was established in 1994. Before that the company was know as Orbis Publications and began in 1981 as a small family company based out of Oceanside, CA. Since then we have grown but still remain the same small family company we started back in the 80's. When Mr. Sesma first began the company, the plan was to distribute the Basic English for Foreigners program to other teachers and schools.
Over time many of the teachers and schools began to request other types of bilingual educational materials. Mr. Sesma soon began distributing bilingual dictionaries for many large publishers and importing dictionaries from Europe and Asia.
We are now focused on publishing new content with a focus on English language learning. We are expanding into software. We are in the process of developing better, more modern publications. We plan to bring out more translations for our publications. We thank you for being a part of our small success.
